1. Understanding the structure of classic jazz standards.
2. Identifying common jazz forms such as AABA and 12-bar blues.
3. Recognising key sections including heads, solos, and endings.
4. Applying form awareness in performance and improvisation.
Blues Foundations:
1. Understanding core blues forms and progressions.
2. Introduction to blues styles and stylistic variations.
3. Boogie-woogie accompaniment patterns and techniques.
4. Applying blues language in ensemble performance.
Harmony and Theory:
1. Understanding jazz chord construction and harmonic function.
2. Exploring chord extensions, alterations, and substitutions.
3. Applying harmonic concepts to standards and progressions.
4. Integrating jazz harmony into performance and improvisation.
Advanced Techniques:
1. Understanding shell voicings and their harmonic function.
2. Applying voicings across different positions on the instrument.
3. Developing fuller textures through efficient voice leading.
4. Using voicings effectively in comping and ensemble settings.
